RVPBA Community Prescribed Burn

The Rogue Valley Prescribed Burn Association's next community Prescribed Burn will be moved to Sunday, April 30th due to the weather.

Come learn how to prepare the land for the beneficial application of fire, the methodology of ignition, the use of water handling equipment including hose lays and backpack pumps, monitoring control lines, and post burn mop-up.

Participants of all experience and skill levels are welcome.
Please share with anyone who might be interested.
Let us know if you plan to attend, so we can buy enough drinks and sandwiches.

This burn will take place on Tucker Teutsch's property, located at

3882 Anderson Creek Rd
Talent, OR 97540

Please follow this link for the location of the parking area.

We are asking folks to arrive at 10AM.

There is a short walk to the burn area. Aaron will begin an introduction and burn briefing at 10:30 AM. That will be followed by basic training for inexperienced/interested participants.
Our test fire is scheduled for 11:00 AM. If conditions are right, the burn will commence. The ignition portion will take a few hours to complete.

Folks who are interested in participating should wear cotton/natural fiber clothing (jeans are great, NO polyester), sturdy boots or shoes, safety or sun glasses, leather gloves, a hat, and bring a favorite hand tool if you have one. Please bring snacks and water as well. Sandwiches and drinks will be provided by the landowner after the burn and before the subsequent mop-up is completed.

We will be burning a 7 acre unit of mixed hardwoods and conifers. The landowner has had extensive fuel reduction work done on this property to get it to the point where fire can be used safely and effectively. Professional firefighters will guide participants in the implementation of a controlled underburn to reduce the fine fuel loads that carry wildfire, reduce noxious weeds, and cycle nutrients back into the soil.

As before, we have a burn plan, a burn permit from ODF, a qualified burn boss and firing boss, multiple fire engines and fire professionals leading the burn and educating the public on safe fire use. This will be another wonderful opportunity for interested community members to observe a controlled burn, learn how they are conducted safely and effectively, develop a healthier relationship with fire, and participate in our growing prescribed burn association. Anyone who attended our previous events knows, with proper planning and preparation, working with fire is fun!

Thanks, I hope to see you all there!
